Shane D. Inman
Shane Inman is president and senior principal designer of The Inman Company, a residential and commercial interior design firm located in Manhattan; with offices in Traverse City, Michigan, and Chicago. As a national and international design firm, The Inman Company has captured the attention of those who demand great design and expert customer service.
Shane’s roster of high-end residential projects include celebrity and A-List clientele; while his commercial projects include medical practices, insurance agencies, law firms, heath-and-wellness centers, and restaurants.
During a career that spans almost two decades, Shane has established his reputation for building relationships with consumers as well as brands—some of the most notable brands he has collaborated with are Benjamin Moore, Robert Allen, Rue La La, HGTV, Houzz, About.com, Pottery Barn, Sherwin Williams, and Mercedes-Benz.
Shane began his career in San Francisco, where he specialized in custom kitchen and bathroom design. That eventually led to a five-year partnership with a prominent Fortune 500 company as an onsite designer, project manager, senior interior designer, and the company’s youngest director of design—practicing in Miami, Miami Beach, Key West, Turks & Caicos, the British Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, and Puerto Rico.
As an authoritative voice on everything interior design and how it pertains to the building/renovating process, Shane has been a contributing author for Michigan Home Resource Guide, Traverse Area Association of Realtors, Record-Eagle, Sheridan Road Magazine, Quintessential New Trier, Chicago Style, New York Examiner, Houte Living, HGTV.com, ASID Icon, and Pottery Barn while being a longstanding columnist for the Chicago Tribune and Houzz.com. Shane has also been a regular guest on popular radio talk shows for WSRT and YOU-FM and has been featured on TV 7&4 and FOX News.
Shane is past co-host of On The Couch with Gretchen+ Shane, where he interviewed iconic and legendary individuals such as Jamie Drake, Bunny Williams, Mario Buatta, and celebrity chef Paula Deen. Currently Shane is a featured video-host on About.com and a featured designer on HGTV.com. His most recent press includes The Huffington Post, Fashion Times, Haute Living, and the renowned The New York Times.
Shane received a BA of interior design from Michigan State University, where he is a past adjunct professor for the School of Planning, Design & Construction. Shane is a certified interior designer by the State of New York, a certified interior designer by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), a certified kitchen designer by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), and holds the highest-ranking professional memberships with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).
With a strong emphasis on giving back, Shane was a goodwill ambassador with the U.S. Peace Corps, creative consultant to the Miami City Ballet, event-designer for the Traverse Symphony Orchestra Ball, designer-at-large for acclaimed film director Michael Moore’s Traverse City Film Festival, interiors director for the Chicagoland Randolph Street Market, and founder/interior designer for the highly televised “Ugly Kitchen Contest” which gifted a $35,000 kitchen. Shane’s volunteer work also includes Michigan’s Third Level Crisis Center, Chicago’s Chicago House, and New York’s God’s Love We Deliver.
