The DIFFA Difference!
November 22, 2010The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS Presents "Dining by Design"
Design professionals in the arena of fashion, interior design, furnishings, and architecture as well as many other industry partners, supporters and volunteers came together recently for a night of spectacular networking, fundraising, design and dinner at the world-renowned Merchandise Mart in Chicago for the annual “Dining by Design” gala, presented by the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA).
DIFFA provided an enchanted evening of cocktails and conversation to their black-tie attendees. The event showcased couture table designs provided by the most talented designers and top showrooms in the Windy City. Expertly stylized and magazine ready, these dazzling tablescapes proved to be a visual delight to the multitude of sauntering guests, who were later seated at these masterpieces for an intimate sit-down dinner with friends and colleagues.
Tables by Buckingham Interior Design, Room & Board, Holly Hunt, Gensler, Neff and Kehoe Designs were among the many vignettes on display. Three of the most visual and out-of-the-box offerings were a contemporary display boasting the infamous Philippe Starck “Ghost” chair, a cutting-edge exhibit showcasing a “crystal cloud” over a mirrored table, and a country-chic design displaying raw lumber and bales of hay.
Everyone at this great event – from the talented designers, to showrooms and companies illustrating their contributions to the design industry, to honored guests – were in agreement that it was important to take this opportunity to appreciate the dedicated individuals behind DIFFA as well as within the artistic community who are making such an effort and impact on our local communities.
DIFFA has been making a difference since 1984 and has been granting more than $38 million dollars since. DIFFA is a not-for-profit fundraising and grant-making foundation which distributes funds to Chicago area HIV/AIDS service agencies that provide direct service, preventative education and outreach to people who are HIV positive, living with AIDS, or at risk for infection.
